Maker Faire, Major Progress

We've been remiss in posting partially because we've been so busy progressing on our container builds. Here's boxouse 001, en route and deployed at Maker Faire: [gallery ids="127,128,129,130,131,132,133,134,135,136,137,138"] Not the best placement or most exciting Maker Faire, but much fun as usual. Funniest was the ~5% of people who would ask us if someone lived in a container like this. We explained we live in this very container in West Oakland, and several people snorted in disbelief before walking away! I guess it might be weird to see someone living in a space smaller (and less expensive than) the garage...

Mr. Fred Wiggins

I thought about getting a truck for a minute, but then Mr. Fred Wiggins came into our life: IMG_20140507_114701   He doesn't quite run yet, and he needs a neon-orange paint job + some plants growing on his roof before he's ready for container moving and barhopping. Nevertheless, he's a beautiful addition to our colony!

Year of the Horse

To welcome the year of the horse we have decided to eat like one. Our resolution was to grow most of our own food for the year. In a state of flu fueled delirium, my mad scientist built 20 raised bed gardens. Since our lot was once a land fill we decided to import quality organic dirt and adhere to square foot gardening principles. We sprout most seeds inside. Zuzu learns to not eat the chickens.[/caption] The joy and promise of fresh eggs Spoticus, Guerra, and Giagantor their happy spring scratching is no more Like Anne Boleyn they lost their heads Zealous mini lector left all dead Feather tufts blow in the wind, Bloody history repeated. The chickens she loved And wanted to play Running bounding circles She left them to decay. Like Hanibal before her, The muzzle barely slowed her pace Now thirty-four chickens gone, Sent to a heavenly embrace She...

Outer Space

Aaah the space we will have. A cleverly designed porch has been born. The whole thing bolts onto the doors of the container adding an extra 32 sq. ft. to our home. Six bolts, twenty minutes and the ability to quickly break down and return the container to a 20' mobile box.We also are now successfully running off a solar array and have walls. Soon we may even have a bathroom. Things are getting pretty fancy here at the container village, Postaplandia. We were joined by a new friend who's in a bus, we're accepting of most 20' structures here....
